Embrace Resistance

To ’embrace’

It means to ‘hold closely’ or to ‘accept willingly.’

Synonyms for ’embrace’ are words like ‘clasp, squeeze, welcome and adopt.’ These words communicate that there is a willingness to be close to someone or something.

We embrace our kids.

We embrace grandma.

We embrace an old friend.

Today, I want to make the case for why you should embrace resistance.

Resistance defined is ‘the refusal to accept or comply with something; the attempt to prevent something by action or argument.’

We are resisted constantly. Physically we are fighting atrophy. You know, if you don’t use a muscle it gets weaker and dies.

Mentally many of us go through the motions and are checked out.

Spiritually we rarely look for character building opportunities.

What does embracing resistance look like up close?

My wife has been on a journey over the past few years. She is learning more about herself and being honest. This has been uncomfortable for her at times. There are deeper talks and bigger questions.

But she’s embracing resistance.

I have a friend who is battling depression. Mentally he is fighting. He’s not running away. He’s moving toward the chaos and growing stronger in his mind by trying to be open with those close to him.

He is embracing resistance.

I know a man at our Kettlebell Gym, Center-Fit. He’s very big, over 520lbs. He has also chosen to go toe to toe with the resistance. He’s lost over 110 pounds in the past 8 months and is now down to about 400ish. I know he’s fighting and I know he’s struggling.

He is embracing resistance.

You’ll Only Get Stronger When…

You move toward the hard things. Seek out the heavy stuff and lift it.

No more avoiding hard talks or needed changes.

Today, get stronger.
